Likewise, 2001's top moneymaker, "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone," has fans itching for the next big-screen adaptation from J.K. Rowling's fantasy series about the boy wizard.

"Chamber of Secrets" director Chris Columbus, who also made "Sorcerer's Stone," said audiences can expect another two-and-a-half-hour adventure as Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) fights fresh evil at Hogwarts school.

Columbus found two big advantages this time. He could jump right in on the action, without the character set-up and scene-setting necessary in the first film. And he said "Chamber of Secrets" makes for a more visual tale — "I found it to be the most cinematic of all the books, except maybe `Goblet of Fire.'"

The action is buoyed by improved special effects, Columbus said, including a bigger and better round of quidditch, a game played on flying broomsticks, crafted by George Lucas' Industrial Light & Magic effects house.

Ananova reports:
Harry Potter author appeals against 'school book' ruling
JK Rowling and Warner Brothers are appealing against a court ruling on unlicensed Harry Potter books. The Regional Court in Berlin ruled in favour of a German publishing house, Verlag an der Ruhr. The judge ruled it did not need permission from Warner Brothers because the books were for educational purposes. Warner Brothers lawyer Wilhelm Nordemann said: "The case concerns the unlawful adoption and exploitation of our client's property. It is plagiarism." He added that the publishing house had only declared the books to be school books in order to be able to publish them at no cost. He said: "The books are primarily a merchandising article."

8/12/02: Our friend Brett writes in: I was reading something in the paper you might want to add to your news! This is what it said. "The drawback is you can't stop the aging process so there's no chance of a big break between films," Columbus said. "And you can't shoot all the films simultaneously, like Lord of the Rings, cause you need the kids to look a little older each time." The children are signed through the third installment Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban but with three of the planned seven books still unpublished, its unlikely the same cast can be maintained until the final movie adaptation," Columbus added.  Thanks for the info Brett!
